On the occasion of November – The Month of Science, the University and National Library of the University of Debrecen is announcing a photo contest.

Theme of the contest

What do we see when we look at a familiar place in an unconventional way?

We are looking for photographs that present buildings, parks, urban spaces, or other elements of the built environment from an unusual, creative perspective.

The aim of the contest is to encourage a creative, exploratory, and novel way of seeing through photography, and to draw attention to details of our environment that might remain hidden from us in our everyday lives.

See it differently – discover the familiar with fresh eyes!

Application and Deadlines

Please send your selected entry/entries to the following e-mail address:
kommunikacio@lib.unideb.hu

Based on the professional jury's decision, the most beautiful photos will be displayed on the walls of The Island (A Sziget) study room, enriching the library experience as a special exhibition.

Formal and technical requirements

The file name format should be: Lastname_Firstname_ImageTitle.jpg

Please provide a title for your image in all cases!

We cannot accept images generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI) or significantly modified by AI. If the submitted entry/entries do not meet the technical and formal requirements stated in the call, the application will be considered invalid.

Who can apply?

Anyone can enter the contest, regardless of age, profession, or photographic experience. We especially welcome submissions from the students, faculty, and community of the University of Debrecen.

Evaluation and Prizes

The contest concludes with judging and an award ceremony. The three-member professional jury will select the best 20–25 photos to be exhibited on the walls, and each jury member will individually choose one work for a special award. The creators of the awarded entries will receive valuable prizes.
