During the reconstruction works, the serving of books of the Old and Rare Books Collection will be suspended.
The main body of the Old and Rare Books Collection contains our most valuable and unique holdings, such as the special books with cultural-historical significance. It is our responsibility to protect this collection.
It was founded in 1976, when the separation of items that were published before 1850 has started. Nowadays, the Old and Rare Books Collection consists of approximately 30 000 books representing the local, Hungarian and European cultural values from the early 1500s to the late 1800s.
The rare and protected books are kept in a protected storage. Exhibitions and organized visits provide an opportunity for the visitors to see and learn about these items.
