Available Membership Options
If you are not affiliated with the University of Debrecen (UD) and are 14 years of age or older, you may apply for a Non-UD Membership either through the online registration portal or in person at any of our libraries.

Please note: Registration initiated through the online portal does not entitle you to borrow library materials. To activate and finalize your registration, you must visit one of our libraries in person. |
Free Registration in 2026!
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the University and National Library of the University of Debrecen (DEENK), registration is free of charge throughout 2026, including for non-UD members.
Membership is valid for six months or one year from the date of registration.
Documents Required for Registration
Please bring the following documents when registering:
- a valid ID card or a driving licence issued after 1 January 2001, together with a proof of address (address card);
- for university students: a valid student ID card or an official certificate of student status;
- for applicants under the age of 18: a parental consent form (the legal guardian must also be present in person for identity verification);
- documentation proving eligibility for any applicable discounts;
- a completed membership application form, if you did not initiate your registration online.
Borrowing Privileges
Members may borrow:
- all circulating materials available on open shelves and in closed stacks;
- up to 5 items per library, with each loan renewable up to five times, provided no reservation has been placed on the item.
Services Available
Members are entitled to:
- on-site access to electronic collections and databases;
- request items from closed stacks and place reservations;
- use library computers;
- printing and photocopying services.
Services Not Available to Non-UD Members
Non-UD Membership does not include:
- remote (off-campus) access to licensed electronic resources, including databases, e-books, and e-journals;
- overnight borrowing of books.
Library Card
Upon registration, you will receive a library card that can be used under the same conditions at all DEENK libraries.
The library card is non-transferable and is valid only when presented together with a photo ID.
The card is required for borrowing materials and using other library services. Its identification number is also needed to access online services, such as stack requests and reservations.

Please note: If you lose your library card, please notify the library as soon as possible to prevent unauthorized use. The replacement fee for a lost card is HUF 500. |
Membership Renewal
When your membership expires, you must:
- return any overdue or non-renewable items;
- settle any outstanding fees or charges.
To renew your membership, please visit the Online Registration Portal and initiate your membership renewal.
Please note: Starting the renewal process online does not restore borrowing privileges. To activate and finalize your renewed membership, you must visit one of our libraries in person.
