Establishing a data management plan will ensure good research data management. This is a simple 1 or 2 pages long document that records information about your research. The plan should consider the following questions:
- What kind of data are collected/generated during the research?
- How are data stored and who can access them?
- Who has the right to access data and how long?
The data management plan will help you make decisions in various data management situations, such as personal data management, short and long term data storage and sharing.
The first version of the data management plan should be prepared at an early stage of the research, and updated if major changes occur during the research. After the project is completed, the data will be handled in accordance with the data management plan.
