Some golfed their way into the future, others assembled a human body from puzzle pieces, traveled through books, or put their brains to the test with playful challenges.
Golf your way into the future!
The "Golf your way into the future!" program was highly popular again this year, with families,
children of all ages, and young adults joining the game—and to our delight, international students also took part in the challenge.
The stations of the mini-golf course offered more than just playful tasks this time: with the help of roll-ups and sandwich boards, we guided visitors through the past 25 years of DEENK. We showed where we started,
how our spaces evolved and changed, and, of course, the services and focus areas we offer library users today.
Thanks to the "then and now" photos, visitors could take a peek behind the scenes of DEENK, while multiple challenges awaited them during the game. The big favorite was Tetris once again: participants had to assemble a rectangular prism from various geometric elements. The VR headset also acted as a magnet for visitors.
So much so that after a while, a queue actually formed at the last station.
Ars Anatomiae – exploring the body playfully
In the Research Room, the body took center stage at the "Ars Anatomiae – Exploring the Body" program. Several primary and secondary school groups visited us to familiarize themselves with the world of anatomy and the library collection in a playful way.
Participants assembled a human body from puzzle pieces, discovered different body parts with the help of coloring pages, and then put their knowledge to the test in a quiz related to the exhibition. Solving the tasks required more than just looking at the quiz sheet: to find the answers, they had to browse through the volumes displayed in the showcases and enlist the help of the library catalog.
The success of the interactive session exceeded even our expectations. It seems the playful approach to anatomy engaged many people!
Könyvbogozó (Book Untangler) – a journey inside and out
The "Könyvbogozó" bibliotherapy session explored a particularly exciting theme this time: traveling. A very intimate and friendly atmosphere developed in the Austria Collection.
Participants were highly interested in exploring silent books, which tell stories exclusively through pictures without any text. The theme of traveling quickly went beyond spatial relocation: internal journeys, personal goals, and the future paths people are preparing for were also discussed.
In the second half of the session, participants co-created a story based on a selected book. Thus, this time, books were not only starting points but also active shapers of joint reflection and conversation.
Playful challenges for the brain
Organized by the Competence Development Group, the workshop titled "Playful Challenges for the Brain – The Cooperation of the Left and Right Hemispheres" took place in the training room on the 3rd floor of the Life Sciences Library (ÉTK).
During this good-humored session, participants could try out how thinking, attention, and problem-solving work together through various board games. Alongside the games, there was naturally room for conversation: several participants did not rush home at the end of the program but stayed a little longer to chat.
It was particularly great feedback for us that participants found the interactive nature of the session both useful and enjoyable. Thank you for spending the evening with us!
Researchers' Night demonstrated once again how a library can be a venue for knowledge, play, community, and discovery in so many different ways. It was wonderful to see children, families, school students, university students, and adults playing, thinking, asking questions, and discovering something new together in the spaces of DEENK. A total of nearly 140 visitors participated in the programs, and it was a special joy for us to welcome international students alongside families and local visitors.
Thank you to all participants for joining us, and naturally, thank you to all our colleagues whose ideas, work, and enthusiasm contributed to ensuring that we could once again welcome visitors with meaningful and pleasant Researchers' Night programs!
See you next year – hopefully with even more games, things to discover, and shared experiences!
